Once we enter into Bolivia a strange scenario opens dominated by the figure of the Licancabur Volcano and the two bodies of water that make up the Green Lagoon, one of the treasures of the Reserve, and the first site of our 4X4 expedition, without comparison in the whole world. We will then visit the Green Lagoon itself, at the foothills of the Licancabur Volcano. Moving across another great extension we’ll make way towards the Valley of the Ladies Desert, followed by the Polques Hot Springs, where we’ll take a bath before departing to the Morning Sun Geyser, astounding example of the volcanic activity of the area. Continuing on our sightseeing tour, we’ll encounter the crown jewel of the Reserve, the Colored Lagoon, main nesting grounds of the three species of flamingos that are native to the area. Al this place we will presence how the algae activated by the solar radiation and the wind give the lagoon it’s distinctive color, which in turn coincides with the colors of the feathers and feet of the flamingos. These fantastic deserts own a palate of terracotta colors ranging from: red, orange, ochre, bronze, brown and beige, which are present at every curve of the road, fighting over the attention of the traveler. We will also visit the intriguing Stone Tree and perhaps encounter the indomitable vicuña, which is often seen traveling in small groups. We will then continue towards Ojo de Perdiz where the Tayka Desert Hotel was erected, with privadasbathhabitaciones, hot water and heating. We’ll be spending the night here (L,D).

Today we’ll continue our trip towards the Cachi, Honda, Chiarkotra, Hedionda and Cañapa Lagoons, where we are bound to see and be able to photograph an abundant number of flamingos of the three species of the area. Other birds, like Andean seagulls and ducks accompany the flamingos in these lagoons flanked by snow capped volcanoes, which foothills are covered with some local green vegetation (paja brava, yareta and thola) to then end in the ochre colors that winds have drawn over the millennium, or in the strange colors that come from the borax and sulfur of the lagoons. In the afternoon we’ll head towards Mala Mala Bay and direct our voyage towards an island just into the great salt plain, Isla Pescado (Fish Island). This island is scarcely visited by tourists which in turn makes it a much quieter and pleasant experience. Here we will also take a quick hike to the top to experience another close and intimate view of the white desert.
