DISCOVER THE JOCKEY CLUB GOLF NEAR BUENOS AIRES
History
The Jockey Club Golf is one of the famous golf
of South America. It is located at about 20 minutes from down
town Buenos Aires.
The main building, inaugurated in 1945, was build and designed
for the maximum comfort and has all facilities needed.
The famous "Cancha Colorada" (6,628 yards) and "Azul"
(6229 yards) were designed by Allister Mackenzie.
The "Cancha Colorada" inaugurated in 1928, has welcomed
world cup 1962 and 1970, and the national championship, the
Paco Rabanne Cup playing by both best Europeans and Americans.
The design seems to be apparently easy, but, while playing,
it's becoming amazing for the first shots of each hole
are very important.
The designer has added some mounds and unevenness to the flat
area where lies the golf. Therefore, playing is outstandingly
more complicated.
It is framed by wooded areas, with pine trees for main species.
In spite of this, the layout is often open and it is possible
to play the hole strait towards the fairway.
The greens can't be seen from the centre of the fairway.
As a result, you must aim at the flag.
Most of the time, it is not easy to read the greens for putting
and short shots.
Here, it is compulsory to seek and learn the secrets of the
fairways and greens before playing well. It is better not to
play alone on the flag. If not, you have to forget the amazing
shots, and make it in the old fashion Scottish way: chipping.
The other, "Cancha Azul", also inaugurated in 1928 is considered
as the second Jockey Club's green fee but has another philosophy.
Indeed, having a similar design as the first one you'll find
changes when arriving to holes with water hazards. It happens
when crossing the street from N°2 to N°3: Here, another
game is starting and finish ending the N°7 (par 3) with
its lake laying from the entrance tee to the green. And you'll
have to cross again the street to play the N°8.
