VOYAGE PROGRAM
To reach the mythical «White Continent» you will cross the notorious Drake Passage named after the famous explorer, Sir Frances Drake, who sailed in these waters way back in 1578. You will then traverse the Polar Front which marks the area where waters from the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans meet. The magic continues when you arrive in Neko Bay: mountains, snow, ice and nature in the wild combine to create a unique landscape in a muffled atmosphere, broken only by the haunting cries of Cape petrels and cormorants. Even further south in the heart of this glacial universe the high cliffs of Booth Island and Cape Renard mark the entrance to the Lemaire Channel, a paradise renowned throughout the world for its spectacular beauty. At Deception Island you will marvel at one of the largest colonies of Chinstrap penguins. Meanwhile, our call at Brown Bluff on the Antarctic continent brings you to the foot of an imposing cliff where you will find a colony of 20,000 Adelie penguin couples. On board LE BORÉAL & L’AUSTRAL you can combine in one single voyage the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia. This sub-Antarctic region is a peak which emerges from the Scotia Arc. All the wildlife species of the Great South are to be found here. You will disembark at the splendid Gold Harbour or Fortuna sites among the penguins and be allowed to approach the sea elephants lounging in the weak southern sunshine. This glacial expanse surrounded by high mountains is home to over 250,000 King penguins. Here you will also find the first whaling station and the Grytviken museum which is home to the tomb of the famous navigator, Shackleton. LE BORÉAL then sets her compass for the Antarctic Peninsula, slipping effortlessly through.
