Itinerary with Helsingfors:
Day 1 (1 N 4-star
hotel) (meals included: L, D)
Arrival at Buenos Aires. Transfer to your hotel. Lunch in a tipical restaurant of the city. City tour in the afternoon.
Day 2 (1N Lodge Helsingfors) (B, L, D)
Morning flight to El Calafate. We drive across immense steppes to Helsingfors, located 180 km north of El Calafate, at the northern end of The Glaciers National Park and on the shores of Viedma Lake. The lodge is surrounded by a stunning landscape, sheltered by conifer woods and with a panoramic view of the lake, The Andes Mountains and Mount Fitz Roy. This last magnificent 3375 meters high granite formation interrupts the Patagonian scenery abruptly. According to the native people, the summit was home to the terrible Agschen, the Lord of the Fire. The lodge has 8 comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, a dining room and a cozy living room. Briefing on the following 3 days program and dinner.
Day 3 (1N Lodge Helsingfors) (B, L, D)
Activities:
-Laguna del Morro (6 hours): After sailing on a Viedma Lake tributary and a short trek, we come to a crystal patch of emerald-green water: The Morro Lagoon. A quiet and peaceful natural paradise, an ideal place to encounter wild local fauna.
-Laguna Azul trekking or horseback riding (4 to 5 hours): we leave breath-taking Mt Fitz Roy behind to enter the Patagonian Andean Forest. After a steep climb, either by foot or on horseback, the most splendorous landcape unveils, framed by ever-snowed mountain peaks and a river of ice that ends in the waters of Blue Lagoon. A good opportunity for spotting local fauna.
-Visit to Estancia de los Hermanos (trekking or horse riding) (3 hours).
A horse riding or trekking to the Estancia skirting Viedma Lake with an “asado patagónico”, i.e. delicious typical Patagonian barbecue.
Day 4 (1N Hosteria La Estepa) (B, BL, D)
Glaciar Viedma navigation and trekking:
It takes the Zodiac a 40 minute-long trip from the lodge pier to Viedma Glacier, where you may witness large pieces of glacier ice cracking and roaring as they break and fall into the water becoming icebergs. Once on shore, a unique experience takes place when exploring the caves that the rim of the glacier forms upon the land.
Transfer to El Calafate at the end of the day. Dinner and night at a cosy lodge.
