About Iguazu National Park:
Iguazú National Park is located in the far NE of the Argentine Republic. The Iguazú River flows for approx. 1320 km to its confluence with the Paraná River. Its width generally varies between 500 and 1000 m, however, within the Park area it broadens up to 1.500 mts and twists to the south, then back to the north, forming a huge U at the outlet. A sudden drop in altitude creates the impressive waterfalls which are the main attraction of the Park. In this large curved path, the rocky landscape fragments the river into multiple tributaries, which in turn become waterfalls.

This extensive fragmention effect results in the huge waterfall fan which gives the park its name. The semicircular waterfall is some 80 mts high and 2,700 mts D and is situated on a geographical basaltic line spanning the border between Argentina and Brazil. Formed by cascades producing vast sprays of water, it is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The surrounding subtropical rainforest has over 2,000 species of vascular plants and homes the typical wildlife of the region: tapirs, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars and caymans.
