Discover the amazing Kitesurfing spots near Fortaleza.
Brazil
is the wider state in South America covering nearly half the
American subcontinent. Boarded in the eastern cost by Atlantic
Ocean, its neighbours are Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and French
Guyana for the northern borders. And in the west lie Argentina,
Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru, and in the south, Uruguay. The country
is 8.511.966 km2 wide.
The capital is Brasília, but the main cities are Rio
de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Recife in the north.
800 Kms northwest of Recife lies Fortaleza, capital of the State
of Ceará. It is a large, modern city where bold, new
architecture contrasts with beautiful beaches and tall coconut
palms.
On the beaches, you can see local typical fishermen "jangadeiros"
who go fishing to the sea in their rugged "jangadas"
(crude sailing rafts traditionally used for fishing in the region).
The jangadeiro's daily struggle against the wind and waves is
one of the most fascinating adventures in the region.
There are many other sights in the city as well, including the
José de Alencar Theater, built in a modern art.
Fortaleza has a population of about 1,8 million inhabitants.
A few hours from Fortaleza just outside of the little town Ubajara
lies the National Uberjara Park where to take a funicular to
visit the caves or make a trekking among the forest to reach
the amazing waterfalls.
At 80 Kms south from Fortaleza are found the Kitesurf spots.
Best periods are from August until December. These months you
can kite every day with 9 to 14m² kites with wind from
17 kts to 25 kts and often 35 Kts. In the other months the wind
can also be really good. Near the beaches, there are huge dunes
where is encountered some really warm air, which creates the
every day blowing wind. It is not necessary to bring a wetsuit.
Indeed, almost the whole year the water is like 20 to 25 degrees...
The beaches are deserted and you will find everywhere a place
to kite.
